Technical activewear has revolutionised our workouts, providing moisture-wicking comfort and support. But with these investment pieces becoming staples in our wardrobe, proper care is essential. As athleisure continues to thrive, here are our top tips for keeping your activewear in peak condition. GIVE IT SPACEAfter your workout, let your activewear breathe for a few hours to allow sweat to evaporate. This prevents odours and bacteria from lingering and transferring to other clothes. STICK TO COOL WASHES To preserve elasticity, wash your activewear in cool temperatures (40°C and below). For pieces with zips, use a mesh laundry bag to prevent damage. INSIDE OUT Turning your activewear inside out before washing helps maintain vibrancy and protects exterior coatings and logos from fading or peeling. CHOOSE THE RIGHT DETERGENT Use specialised stain remove detergents to remove sweat and odours while preserving fabric integrity. Avoid harsh chemicals that degrade performance fabrics. SKIP THE FABRIC CONDITIONER Fabric conditioner is like arsenic to elastane - it can hinder moisture-wicking properties and stretch retention and cause the thin elastic fibres to break causing tiny white fibres to push through the material. Instead, use scent boosters for a fresh smell. AIR DRY ONLYOpt for air drying instead of tumble drying to prevent shrinkage. You can dry them flat on top of the boiler, but for best results we recommend you hang dry. For some of our more heavyweight fabrics, this could take up to 2 days. YOU DON'T HAVE TO WASH EVERY TIMEContrary to popular belief, you don't have to wash your activewear every time you wear it. Hear us out on this: not all workouts require immediate washing - if you did a light yoga workout or a walk, it may be that you didn't sweat in the garment and it can be worn for another workout before washing. Assess sweat levels before laundering, but remember to wash sports bras after every wear to prevent bacterial growth. We pride ourselves on durability of our clothing wash after wash but if you can, give it a little helping hand - it's best not to over-wash the garments where possible, as this helps them to keep looking new and fresh. REFRESH ON THE GO The high elastane content means our clothing keeps in shape wear after wear. If you decide you don't need to wash your gear after one wear, but feel a little icky about it - keep a finishing spray handy to revitalise fabrics and neutralise odours between washes, perfect for your active lifestyle. DEALING WITH PILLINGIt's a fact of life that sometimes clothes pill or create small little bobbles in areas where there is constant friction. There isn't too much that can be done about it, some fibres are more prone to pilling than others but it's not the end of the world. If you spot a little pilling build up, simply take a razor and gently shave off those pesky little bobbles which should come away smoothly from the fabric, leaving you with fresh looking activewear. But please remember, gently does it! HEIR AND A SPAREWe know what it's like to be let down by your favourite item of clothing or have an outfit planned in your head only to find out the key piece is in the wash! That's why we always say, if you love it that much buy more than one, that way you always have others waiting in the wings incase of emergency or you can separate them out for "every day wear" and "best wear" so you know whatever happens to your favourites, your back up is in tact.
